Fighting Genocide Denial

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Over recent months, there has been a number of articles on the prevalence and politics of genocide denial, both in Rwanda as well as internationally too. Survivors Fund (SURF) along with its partner organisations strives to raise awareness of the genocide itself, the history leading up to it and the situation of survivors in Rwanda itself.

International Funding

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

SURF was founded with an objective to raise funding internationally for survivors of the genocide in Rwanda. Having now worked in Rwanda for sixteen years, SURF is no brief visitor to the country. Speaking out

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Moral Courage is “the willingness to speak truth to power and risk backlash for a greater good.” There are a number of survivors that I meet during the course of my work, that have great moral courage. The President of SURF’s partner IBUKA, the umbrella body of survivor’s organisation in Rwanda, is amongst them.

Acknowledgement

Monday, January 4th, 2010

There are two pieces of news that I share with you, both an acknowledgement of the work of SURF and our partners. At the 64th General Assembly of the United Nations last month, a resolution was adopted calling for the urgent implementation of proposals to assist survivors of the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

Advocacy by and for survivors

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Advocacy, which I write about in our new annual report, underpins the work of SURF. It is critical to raise awareness of the situation of survivors in Rwanda today, and to secure greater support to enable survivors to rebuild their lives.

Monday, June 29th, 2009

SURF is planning to stage a Reading of the Testimonies at the Whitechapel Gallery on Sunday 12th July 2009 from midday to 4pm to mark the 15th anniversary of the end of the Rwandan Genocide. Any support that you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
