Education into Employment

Last year, in partnership with the UK Conservative Party, SURF developed an Education into Employment programme to support young survivors at university in Rwanda to secure a job on graduation. This year a new group will be working on developing a Leadership and Communications Programme.

A Visit to Rwanda

The past 3 weeks in Rwanda have been a happy time, and a sad time. Attending the graduation of the 12 students SURF has sponsored through UNILAK was a happy time. Attending the funeral of the parents of our Co-Chair, Liliane Umubyeyi, was certainly a sad time. A visit to Rwanda is often an experience of mixed emotions.

Provision and access to education for survivors in Rwanda is a critical aspect of SURF’s ongoing work. Over the course of this fortnight, SURF is hosting a group from the UK Conservative Party who are in Rwanda as part of Project Umubano – a two-week international social action programme. The group of five have been developing an education into employment programme for the 76 young survivors that SURF currently supports through university across Rwanda.
