Survivors Fund (SURF), in partnership with Hope Survivors Foundation (HSF), marked the 15th Anniversary of the Rwandan genocide on Saturday at an event at the Amnesty International UK Human Rights Action Centre.
The event was covered in a report in Rwanda’s New Times today. The event featured a stirring speech by Holocaust survivor, Dr Martin Stern, as well as an address by the Rwandan Ambassador to the UK, H.E. Claver Gatete.
Two candles were lit in remembrance of the victims and survivors of the genocide, by former SURF trustees, Jacqueline Nyaritunga and Alphonsine Kabagabo. A memorial prayer was led by Bishop Mukwiza and Rosie Whitehouse of Reportage Press read from Reverien Rurangwa’s remarkable new book, Genocide: My Stolen Rwanda.
In addition, there was a Reading of the Testimonies and a series of short films about the situation of survivors in Rwanda today – which we hope to have posted on youtube soon.
Thank you to all who attended the event, as well as the many people who made it possible.
