This is the first extract from our Annual Report 2025/26, which we will be showcasing in posts over the coming weeks. This is a message from the Chief Executive of Survivors Fund (SURF), Samuel Munderere:

The year 2025 has been another important year for Survivors Fund (SURF) as we continue our commitment to supporting survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. More than three decades after the genocide, the needs of survivors continue to evolve. Many of the women we support are now entering later stages of life, often facing ongoing health challenges, economic hardship, and the long-term effects of trauma. At the same time, the children born from the violence of the genocide are now adults navigating their own futures. SURF remains dedicated to walking alongside these individuals and families as they rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Throughout the year, our work focused particularly on economic empowerment and mental health support for survivors and their families. We supported initiatives that help survivors strengthen their livelihoods and achieve greater financial independence, while continuing to expand access to trauma-informed counselling and psychosocial care. Through these efforts, we aim not only to address the lasting psychological impact of the genocide but also to ensure that survivors have the practical resources and opportunities needed to live stable and dignified lives.

None of this work would be possible without the generosity and commitment of our supporters, partners, and donors who stand with survivors year after year. On behalf of SURF and the communities we serve, I would like to express our deepest gratitude for your continued support. Together, we are helping survivors move forward with strength, dignity, and renewed hope for the future.

Thank you for your unwavering support.

With gratitude,

Samuel Munderere, Chief Executive
